Happy fall! Although the weather felt more like mid-summer, last Friday marked the first day of fall. This means that it is time to prepare your home for the cooler months. Below is a check list of things you should do to your home before the winter arrives.
Roof Maintenance:
Clean and inspect gutters and downspouts for adequate drainage
Have chimney cleaned and swept (wood burning fireplace)
Inspect your roof for damage, lifted or missing shingles
Check for moss on roof and apply treatment
Check eaves and gables for holes or openings and install screens to prevent birds, rodents or other pests from entering
In the Yard:
Rake leaves (compost the pile and use as mulch)
Aerate ad fertilize lawn so its bright in the spring
Cut back perennial plants, mulch around base
Remove dying annuals and plant flower bulbs
Remove Hoses from spouts and drain - Store indoors
Drain and turn off sprinkler system and turn off outdoor water
